  11. ･･･ About System Error Patch...

  13.     System Error Patch is a system extension designed to let you override system errors.  If a system error is encountered while System Error Patch is loaded, you'll get three beeps, and then the application that caused the problem will quit.

  15.     To use System Error Patch, just plop "System Error Patch 1.2" into your System Folder and Restart!  (At startup, you can stop System Error Patch from being loaded by holding down the mouse button).

  17.     System Error Patch is compatible with System versions 6.0 and up.  (Includes System 7.0).

  19. ･･･ About version 1.2...

  21.     Remember this:  "If enough people pay the shareware fee for this version, we may release a newer version that records the time and date of the error, along with the ID number..."?  Well, enough people paid the fee, and here before you is System Error Patch 1.2!  System Error Patch now records the date and time of the System Error, along with the ID.

  23.     To use this nifty new feature, make sure that you have restarted with version 1.2 of System Error Patch in your System Folder.  System Error Patch should have created the file "System Error Log" on the top level of your hard disk.  Don't move this file!

  25.     Whenever you want to take a look at your system error log, open up the application "System Error Log Reader", which will display a list of the times and dates of various system errors.

  27.     If you want to delete the System Error Log, go ahead and do so.  But keep in mind that when you do so, System Error Patch won't be able to record any more system errors until you restart again, (so that System Error Patch can create the log again).

Q:    "I thought System Error Patch was real cool until I hit 'ShutDown' from the Special Menu.  My mac normally displays a dialog box, but with System Error Patch installed, I get nothing.  Is it me?  Did I do something wrong?  Am I a bad person?  I could just... just... resort to using Microsoft software! <sniff>  Please help Dr. Bloom!  You gotta help me!"

A:    Now now, don't come down on yourself to hard!  Killing yourself is never a solution to things!  The first step in my twelve step program is to point the finger at who's really at fault.  This problem is a bug with System Error Patch.  (I've been working on it for some time, with little success).  The dialog that is supposed to be displayed is actually a system error.  System Error Patch sees the error coming around, and, out of being the mindless little init that is, over rides it.  Does this answer your question?

  38. A:    You eee-diot!  Never say the B word in my column!  Get out!  Get out!  (Editors note:  B*mb Sh*lt*r adds a continue button to the System Error dialog box, which doesn't always work.  S.E.P., % wise, works more often the the 'B' program).

  50.     A lot of time and effort has gone into this program.  We are asking an eeeeeeensy weeeeeeensy $3 for the usage of it.  Only $3!  As many con-artists have once said, "You can find that much between the pillows of your couch!"  So look between those pillows people!  Check in the pockets of your pants!  Go without McDonalds for a day!  Errr... half a day :-)

  60.     If you wish to distribute System Error Patch, please write to the address, (postal or email), above for permission.  Please remember to state the date(s) you plan to distribute on, and if the distributing party is a Macintosh User's Group.  So far we haven't turned anyone down for distribution rights, so no need to worry.

  62.     The source code to System Error Patch is available to users who have payed the shareware fee for $17.  Send your money along with a shareware fee, and you will recieve the C source code to the newest version, along with the THINK C project and resource files.

  67. 11/22/93:  SEP project started.  We are encountering problems with dialogs.  After the INIT has loaded, the resource fork goes away, and this is causing hell.

  69. 12/01/93:  Alpha release.  SEP altered so that it doesn't have to worry about dialog boxes.  Beep only.  System 6 and 7 compatible.

  71. 12/10/93:  1.0 release.  SEP altered so that it uses dialogs, but now we are unsure of it's compatibility with System 6, so we can't give a yes/no.  Special thanx to Anders Wahlin for some solutions to the dialog problems.

  73. 1/28/94:  1.1 release.  We found that attempting to load a dialog box during a system error can sometimes cause problems, so we went back to the original plan of beeping three times.  If you would like to try your luck with version 1.0, (the one that shows a dialog box), just pay the shareware fee and include a disk, and we'll send it to you.
